There are lots of events happening year round in Afikpo. And most of it is FREE to attend! This includes festivals, anniversaries, wrestling contests, marriage ceremonies, title taking ceremonies, fundraisers, graduation parties, etc. Here are some recommended events.

Mbe (also known as “Ebu Mbe”) Festival: A festival that combines good music, dancing, entertainment by masquerades and social satire.

New Yam Festival: This is possibly the most important cultural festival in Afikpo. It is widely celebrated in Afikpo and in countries like the United States where a sizable population of Afikpo people reside.

Ehugbo Day: Organized by the Afikpo Town Welfare Association (ATWA), this festival showcases the cultural heritage of Afikpo people. Featured entertainment includes masquerades, dance groups, songs, etc.

Wrestling Contests: The annual wrestling season brings with it the opportunity to watch able bodied young men compete with each other in the wrestling arena.
